ForeverAnne Strategic Plan

This Strategic Plan provides the framework and actionable tactics to leverage and preserve the integrity of Anne for the cultural and economic benefits of Prince Edward Island for years to come.

By clearly communicating the worldwide awareness and loyal following of Anne of Green Gables; the findings from the Anne 2008 centennial celebrations; the valuable input from islanders, visitors and tourism organizations; and the undeniable link this literary icon has with the island itself, this Strategic Plan will denote the target audience and provide practical steps that will transform people’s passion for Anne into visits to Prince Edward Island.

The Strategic Plan will provide direction and lead to tangible, measurable results. It will help to unite the efforts of the various entities marketing PEI and provide Anne with a strong and cohesive voice.

2008 Marked 100 Years of Anne of Green Gables

2008 marked the 100th Anniversary of the first publication of “Anne of Green Gables” by the L.C. Page Company. An immediate bestseller in 1908, the book has become one of Montgomery's most celebrated and recognized novels, providing the background for many musicals, plays, and edits. It has also been translated into over 15 different languages and put on film. To celebrate this story and the land, sea and people that inspired it, the Institute became part of a national collaboration, featuring Federal and Provincial government departments, industry, and other Montgomery organizations, and developed a year-long celebration of this important Anniversary. Events, featuring the themes “Entertainment and Education” took take place during all seasons in 2008, with the majority occurring during the summer months of May thru to September of 2008.
