TIAPEI Presents Industry Position to Standing Committee on Tax-Inclusive Pricing
Bill 101 is a Private Member's Bill tabled by provincial MLA Alan McIsaac which calls for the introduction of tax inclusive pricing in PEI. TIAPEI will be expressing its opposition to this bill in a presentation to the Standing Committee on Community Affairs and Economic Development on February 3, 2009. The proposed amendment would serve to drive up operating costs for retailers - costs that ultimately will be passed on to consumers by way of higher prices or reduced service levels and place the tourism industry at a disadvantage on the global market. The majority of responses to a recent survey conducted by TIAPEI were clearly opposed to Bill 101. Presenters to the Standing Committee will include: Alan McIsaac, MLA; Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce; TIAPEI, PEI Business Directory; Vesey's Seeds.
