Please join the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) and the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island (TIAPEI) as we celebrate an important milestone at the 10th Annual Tourism HR Forum at Prince Edward Island’s Rodd Charlottetown Hotel November 14-16, 2011. Rodd Hotels & Resorts’ Lori MacKinnon is the 15,000th emerit Tourism Certified Professional, having successfully completed the requirements of the certification program for Sales Manager. Lori will be the guest of honour at a luncheon on Wednesday, November 16 at the HR Forum, where her accomplishment will be celebrated.
Ms. MacKinnon has an extensive background in tourism and hospitality, and has experience in several related occupations. In 1999, she started working at Rodd Hotels & Resorts, a company that prides itself on having exceptional HR practices and a professional and knowledgeable team. Rodd Hotels & Resorts is a long time user of emerit training and certification programs, and many of their staff have achieved Professional Certification.
“My employers are strong supporters of the emerit program and approached me about it,” says Ms. MacKinnon. “They encourage all of their staff to pursue certification and some of my colleagues are certified in multiple occupations. The emerit certification program is the perfect way to showcase the talented people we have on staff.”
The benefits of emerit aren’t exclusive to employers; they extend to employees and customers.
“The certification process gave me validation that I was providing professional service and meeting national standards,” Ms. MacKinnon explains.”During the process, I did learn some alternative ways of doing things that I can now incorporate in my day to day interactions with clients and colleagues. I believe it is a great comfort to clients and guests to know that they are working with true professionals in their field. Being emerit certified gives me the credibility they seek.”
When asked about being the 15,000th emerit certified professional, Lori’s belief in the credential is clear. “This is a remarkable milestone for the program and I am honoured to be a part of this group. Each and every one of my fellow emerit certified professionals should be proud of their certification—they’ve strengthened Canada’s position as a world class tourism destination.”
Please join us at the HR Forum to recognize Lori’s accomplishments and continued contribution to the Canadian tourism and hospitality industry.
