On December 2nd, the Tourism Industry Association of PEI (TIAPEI) held it’s Annual General Meeting at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown. A new Executive was elected at the meeting and the following positions were filled:
Elaine Thomson, Westmont Hospitality Group – President
Thom MacMillan, Cavendish Entertainment – Past President
Kevin Mouflier, Slemon Park Hotel & Conference Center – Vice President
Tyson MacInnis, Cavendish Maples Cottages – Treasurer
Zubair Siddiqi, Delta Prince Edward Hotel – Secretary
David Anderson, Resources West Inc. – Member at Large (Appointed)
Robert Jourdain, Little York B & B – Member at Large (Appointed)
Don Cudmore, TIAPEI Executive Director – Ex-officio
Elected as Board Members-at-Large were Charlene Belsher, Pat Notman, Oralie MacKay, Judy MacDonald, Doreen Sark, Mary Lou MacFarlane and Erskine Smith. All elected positions are for a one year term and the Board of Directors is comprised of seven elected Members-At Large plus 24 Regional and Sector Associations.
The day’s theme was “Moving Forward Strategically” and keynote presenters, David Goldstein, CEO of the Tourism Industry of Canada and Michele MacKenzie, CEO of the Canadian Tourism Commission, discussed the changing trends in marketing, Canada’s ranking against global competitors, emerging market opportunities and the challenges ahead for the tourism industry. Trip Advisor’s Senior International Sales Manager, Destination Marketing, Jim Brody spoke about “Maintaining Your Online Reputation: Understanding and Embracing Marketing through User-Generate Content and Social Networking” and the Tourism Plan 2012 was presented by Tourism and Culture and the Tourism Advisory Council. Other sessions during the day long event included a progress report from the Tourism Research Centre on TAC’s Strategy 2015 and a panel discussion on Meetings and Conventions and Cruise Ship Opportunities.
Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Henderson was the guest speaker at the luncheon which featured introductions of this year’s scholarship recipients Casey Ford and Ryan Gallant. Ryan is enrolled in the Bachelor of the Arts program in International Management at Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC, while Casey is on her 2nd year of studies in the Tourism Management Program at Holland College. During the luncheon, a presentation was made to Thom MacMillan, recognizing his dedication and commitment to PEI’s tourism industry during his two years as President of the Tourism Industry Association of PEI.
The Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island (TIAPEI) is a not-for-profit, membership-based organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of Prince Edward Island’s tourism industry.
