Next Session Start Date: Currently in session.
The RTW Youth Program is a fully funded federal program and is intended for youth aged 15-30 who are facing a barrier in their life holding them back from obtaining meaningful employment. Barriers can include, but are not limited to, recent immigrants to Canada, single parents, people who did not complete high school, etc.
Classroom Training (8 weeks)
The participants spend 8 weeks in classroom training learning from the emerit Workplace Essentials workbook, while also incorporating certifications for:
- CPR/ First Aid
- PEI BEST Service Excellence
- Responsible Beverage Service
Participants will also hear from various tourism operators on PEI as guest speakers, and complete site visits to various tourism establishments to gain a better understanding of the industry. The goal of this classroom portion is for the participants to gain confidence and learn tools to become more employable.
In the final weeks of the classroom portion, the participants are responsible, with the support of facilitators, to obtain a 12-week work placement of their choice in the tourism industry.
Work Placement (12 weeks)
Once the participants have found their placement and they have agreed to the terms, the Ready-to-Work Program will supplement half the participants’ pay (to a maximum of 50% of minimum wage for 40hrs per week) to help the employers provide an optimal learning environment for participants.
On completion of the program, each successful candidate receives a $200 bonus from the Program.
